I didn’t get to listen to nearly as much music this year as I would’ve liked due to a series of life events, particularly in the latter half of the year, but I discovered quite a few new names. Maybe this is a little later than normal, but here’s a list of my favorites from 2024 including honorable mentions and favorite songs outside of my favorite albums. All entries are in no particular order. Each title is hyperlinked with an album review if there is one available.

Honorable Mentions

Alligator Bites Never Heal by Doechi
Easily one of the best, if not the best, especially technically, rap albums that came out this year. Doechii burst onto the scene with what is officially labeled a mixtape but cohesive enough for me to consider an album. With the throwback delivery akin to Lauryn Hill and the eclecticism (and aid) of hyperpop influence, Alligator Bites Never Heal was a powerful reminder and addition to the feminine rap canon that has grown exponentially over the past couple decades.
